According to a press release, in January 2020, an FDA laboratory found that at least 11 counterfeit products and counterfeit medications were imported into the United States, including: Viagra; Lipitor; Cialis; Levitra; Zydena; and Staxyn.
In addition, the FDA’s investigation determined that the individuals who purchased these products from foreign websites, such as websites that may be found on or from websites from unknown overseas operations or from unauthorized online sources, conspired with other individuals in violation of federal laws.
FDA’s investigation also found that at least seven of the counterfeit products and counterfeit medications were sold illegally through websites from unknown overseas sources, which included websites that may be located on or from illegal sources, such as those that may be found by U. S. Customs and Border Protection in the United States.
“The FDA today will continue its investigation and will provide guidance to address these and other violations,” said FDA Commissioner, Dr. Lester M. Sarkisian. “We are pleased to share that this case is being prosecuted and the agency is working closely with the Department of Homeland Security and the Food and Drug Administration to address the root cause of this problem.”
